What is Lipa Later?

Lipa Later is a payment option that allows you unlimited access to products and services as you pay for them over time in affordable monthly instalments.

It also allows retailers to sell their goods and services in affordable monthly instalments to their customers by increasing their purchasing power through Lipa Later. 

How does Lipa Later work?

  1. Sign up here to get a credit limit. 
  2.  Shop from our retail partner stores.
  3.  Start paying after 30 days.

What can I buy?

We’ve partnered with over 500 stores so you can pay overtime for the things you love from phones, laptops, furniture, home appliances, motor vehicles amongst others. Check out our Partners.

What do I need to start?

All you need to do is Sign Up and send us your M-Pesa statements for the last 6 months.

Where is Lipa Later available?

We are currently available across Kenya and Rwanda.

How do I Sign Up for Lipa Later?

5 Easy Steps
  1. Click My account on the top right corner of your screen and select ‘Customer’.
  2. Click on ‘Sign Up’, provide some basic information and submit. 
  3. You will receive an email with a link for confirmation.
  4. Follow the link, login and get your pre-approved credit limit instantly.
  5. Submit your Mpesa Statements for the last 6 Months for final approval.

Do I qualify if I am paid in cash or MPesa?

Yes, you do. You can sign up here and we will update you on the amount you qualify for.

What are the Requirements? 

We require your M-Pesa Statements for the last 6 Months. 
 

How do I send my M-Pesa statements?

  1.  Dial *234#
  2. Select ‘M-Pesa Information’
  3. Select ‘M-Pesa Statement’
  4. Select ‘Change E-Mail’
  5. Enter new email as buy@lipalater.com
  6. Confirm your email address as buy@lipalater.com
  7. Once complete, dial *234*5*1*1*2# to send your M-Pesa statements directly to Lipa Later

What If I do not have M-Pesa Statements?

We will require your bank statements for the last 3 months instead. 
 

How long does it take to get approved?

Upon submitting your statements, you should get your credit limit within a few minutes.

What is my Credit Limit?

Your credit limit is the maximum amount you qualify for that you can use to shop from our retail partners. 
 

How do I check my application status?

Log-in to your Account to check the status of your application.

Do you deliver?

We deliver in Nairobi for free for small items and outside Nairobi for an additional fee. Some of our partners also deliver items either for free or at a fee. Please confirm with us 0709684000.

You can also pick your item either at our partner store or our offices.

What’s next once I receive my Credit Limit?

You can now visit our retail partners and shop within your limit. Just provide the retailer with your Identification Card for processing of the item(s). Once your item(s) are processed, you will receive contract via SMS with the details of the items and the terms. Once you accept, you are free to leave with your item.

What is the duration I can pay monthly?

It runs from  2-12 months.

Can I pay earlier? 

 Yes, we will charge you only for the duration you have stayed with the item(s). 

Can I negotiate for the Item price?

Item pricing is at the discretion of our partners however we negotiate on behalf of our customers for better pricing.

Do we consider CRB listed people?

Yes, we do. We check your CRB to determine your creditworthiness, establish the amount you qualify for and approve on a case by case basis.

What are the products that you offer?

1. Lipa Later Electronics & Furniture.

We offer financing for electronics and furniture. See the list of some of our retail partners here. 

2. Lipa Later Motor.

We offer annual insurance for all your electronic devices, whether or not they have been bought through Lipa Later. Click here to sign up. 

When do I start making my monthly payments?

You start paying for the item 30 days after you receive it. We will send you an SMS notification on when the payments are to be made and the amount due.

How do I check my balance, make payments and what I have paid so far?

Login into your Account section on the top right corner of your screen

  1. Sign in to your Lipa Later account.
  2. Click on Wallet to see your balance, what you have paid and your due date.
  3. Select ‘Make Payment’ to pay your monthly instalment. 

How do I make my monthly payments?

You can make your payment through your Account or pay directly through our M-Pesa Paybill No. 174199, Account Number LP.

Can my balance reduce if I offset my loan before the agreed period?

Yes, we will charge you only for the duration you have stayed with your item(s)
